Lodes collaborated with Slovenian designer Nika Zupanc on a stellar new standalone suspension lamp inspired by astral motion within the cosmos. Elara’s alluring transcendental design mimics the trajectory of the planets, drawing cues from celestial elements and Greek mythology. Two metal rings characterize the lamp––one of which can be set at various angles to express fluidity and movement while the other hosts a small satellite sphere at the bottom of the lamp housing a light source that points in two opposing directions. Users can direct the dual emission light sphere as desired. Elara is striking on its own, but when multiple units are arranged together the result is truly “out of this world.” Grouping the lamps also allows for a play in contrast and scale through the positioning of various angles and the available finishes. Lodes joined forces with Tokyo-based design studio YOY to debut Hover, an innovative and illusory collection of table and floor lamps. As its name suggests, Hover features a lampshade that appears as if it is detached from the base. The balloon-like light source appears to float weightlessly, connected by a single cable wrapping down to the power source. The whimsical design is completed in a matte white finish, offering a minimalistic touch that complements various environments and moods. Suitable for residential and public spaces alike, Hover features a dimmer controlled by a power switch on the upper end of the stem, allowing users to modulate the intensity of the light with a simple touch. Functional elements typically applied externally are integrated into the lamp’s internal structure. A poetic re-interpretation of a long-standing lighting archetype, Hover represents another step in Lodes’ ongoing exploration of the relationship between lighting, space, and the ways in which the individual interacts with these elements. YOY comments: “The lamps have been designed with the theme of fictionality––we design products in the same way as writing a novel. In a novel, reality is within fiction. On the contrary, what we do is to bring fiction within reality.”
