Speakers put UV measurement methods to the test

Nov. 11, 2021
Testing the demands of UV LEDs against conventional measurement methods may yield some surprising results. Our upcoming webcast speakers are ready to enlighten you.

I have heard from various corners of my acquaintance that people are “all virtual-ed out,” but I wonder if that is true…I have been increasing my time investment in online learning so much over the past several months, not just in 2020! The ~60-minute format for a webcast or seminar, etc., is my preference because there is usually a cut-to-the-good-stuff effort by the presenters. So I’m looking forward to learning more about the potential pitfalls in test & measurement of ultraviolet (UV) LEDs in our Nov. 18 webcast, presented by technical experts from independent test organization Intertek and light-measurement solutions provider Vektrex.

Now, when I say “pitfalls,” I mean that the teaser for the webcast indicates that there are differences between test methods that consider voltage and thermal effects for UV LEDs versus visible-light LEDs used in general illumination applications. I’m no test & measurement whiz kid, so this should be very informative.

In this webcast, speakers Carl Bloomfield, Jeff Davis, and Jeff Hulett will address:

  • What are transient voltage effects?
  • Why do they matter to UV LED performance?
  • What standards are available for evaluating/characterizing LEDs?
  • How does UV LED test & measurement differ from visible-light LEDs?
  • What do pulse measurement techniques offer for evaluating UV LEDs?

Bloomfield has been a past Strategies in Light speaker, an advisory board member, and a Sapphire Awards judge for several years. Many of you know him from industry events and in working with standards and certification bodies on lighting product testing. Hulett, CEO of Vektrex, has written for LEDs Magazine on test & measurement topics, with an insider’s perspective on how to continuously improve evaluation and characterization to manage LED performance expectations. Jeff Davis has 14 years’ experience with Intertek as an engineer and in engineering management.

Register to tap into this hands-on expertise with us on Nov. 18, or on demand after the live webcast.
